Happy Chinese New Year

It is Chinese New Year, the most important festival in the Chinese communities.

This year, most people in Taiwan get a vacation of night days during Chinese New Year. For me, I can only be off  for 5 days. Nevertheless, it is long enough to me. I bought a ticket to India 2 months ago with a trip plan to visit Taj Mahal. I changed my mind 3 weeks ago to cancel the flight in order to accompany with my family, especially my grandmother because she is not at a good health status in recent years. It is better to me to celebrate the Chinese New Year with her, or I might have many opportunities to be with her in the future.

We dined in a restaurant on Chinese New Year's Eve. There were 20 adults and 1 children in our family group for the dinner. I was lucky to get the seats 2 weeks ago because most restaurants in Taichung have no more seat available on that day. The food was good, and the price was relatively low. I always love the ambience of family reunion. Following traditional custom, I gave money gifts in red paper envelopes to my family (so I went bankrupt). My aunt bought scratchcards to us to try our fortune. At the end, mine didn't win any prize.

My Scratchcard

On the day of Chinese New Year, I went to a movie with my aunt and my cousins. The movie was "Haywire" by Steven Soderbergh. I have to say I don't really like it. Some fighting scenes in the movie were great, but that was all.

We visited a local temple of God of Wealth on Tuesday. We prayed for a prosperous year, and I touched a big Chinese gold ingot which is believed to give people good fortune. Of course, I prayed for hitting the jackpot so that I can own a nice condo in Paris somewhere abroad.

God, please give me a good fortune.
If I went to India, it would be a totally different story to tell. However, spending the vacation at home is a good choice as well. I felt relaxed and happy. Hope everything is going well this whole new year.
