Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming. I could smell BBQ in the air yesterday when I left the hospital. In fact, the festival is on September 12 this year, on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar when the moon is at its fullest and roundest. People in Taiwan tend to celebrate it since several days ago. Traditionally, family members will gather to share the Chinese moon cakes and pomelos while admiring the beautiful night scenery of the bright harvest moon. However, in recent decades, BBQ become more and more popular for the festival. Now it is regarded as a new Mid-Autumn Festival activity.

My cousin and I went to the hypermarket Carrefour near our place to buy food ingredients for BBQ. I cannot cook to save my life, so this was a tough task for me. Happily, the hypermarket has set an area for those who intend to buy BBQ ingredients. We didn't need to be worried. We picked pork, chicken, beef, king trumpet mushroom, green pepper, and sweet corn. Afterwards, my family drove to my grandfather's place in the countryside to have BBQ in the garden.

In order to be more efficient, we used BBQ grill with gas and stone instead of using charcoal. What interesting was that I was the chef for the BBQ. Fine, all I had to do was standing by the grill to take care of the ingredients to avoid overcooking or burning them. Surprisingly, the food we chose randomly was quite savory. We chatted about our recent situations, and my aunt was trying to persuade my another aunt into joining us to visit Italy next summer.  My brother, my cousin, and my nephew let off the fireworks joyfully. Oh, even though we enjoyed the festival a lot, we forgot the most important thing - admiring the  full moon. I think we still have chance to do that next Monday, for it is the actual Mid-Autumn Festival after all.

My cousin's son, so lovely

BBQ, the chicken was super tasty
